2004 Rally in the Valley Tournament
In 2004 SWAT sponsored the 7th annual Rally in the Valley Junior Tournament for players ages 8-18. There were 42 juniors who entered the tournament, a record number. The tournament was held on Labor Day weekend: September 4-5. Singles play was held in these divisions: Boys 12 & Under, Girls 12 & Under, Boys 14 & Under, Girls 14 & Under, Boys 16 & Under, Girls 16 & Under, Boys 18 & Under, and Girls 18 & Under. Doubles play was held in Boys 14 & Under, Girls 14 & Under, Boys 18 & Under, and Girls 18 & Under. Play was held at the Stewart Middle School courts.
All participants received a SWAT t-shirt. Entry fees were $15 for singles and $10 per player for doubles. The weather was beautiful for the entire tournament and drew a large crowd of parents and fans. Players and parents/fans all demonstrated great sportsmanship.
Highlights of the 2004 tournament included double wins by Spencer Sandridge in the Boys 12 and Boys 14 Singles and by Alex Fiore in the Boys 16 and Boys 18 Singles. Not to be outdone by her brother, Suzanne Sandridge was a double winner in the Girls 12 and Girls 16 singles. Andrea Seese gave Suzanne her only defeat of the tournament in the process of winning the Girls 14 Singles title. And in the Girls 18 tournament, feisty Alissa Michael overcame powerful Kayla Koslow to win her first Rally in the Valley championship.
