SWAT tennis announces the 2005 Judith Fisher Memorial Scholarship recipients. This year's winners are Erin Coleman, daughter of Pam and Paul Coleman of Waynesboro, VA, and Mark Schmeissing, son of Bill and Susie Schmeissing of Mount Sidney, VA. Erin is a graduating senior from Waynesboro High school where she earned 4 Varsity Tennis letters, was a two-time "Little Giant" Award for MVP and sportsmanship, and was captain of the Tennis team. She attends the Regional Governor's school. Erin is a member of the Interact Club, National Honor Society and Beta Club, and First Baptist Church Leadership Team. In her letters of recommendation, it was stated that "Erin is a true leader among her peers in the church and in the community. She is an intellectual and passionate person....She has demonstrated the inquisitiveness, aptitude and motivation to be a great student and leader." She holds close to a 4.6 GPA and ranked 5th in her class at the time of applying for the scholarship. Mark is a graduating senior from Fort Defiance High School, Class of 2005. He plans to attend Wheaton College in Chicago, Illinois and to pursue his interests in Math, Science and Technology. Mark earned Varsity tennis letter 4 years. He played #1 Singles and Doubles the past two years. In his letters of recommendation it was stated "he is always willing to jump in and help wherever he is needed. He has a tremendous heart of compassion for people and a desire to do things well....He has provided leadership and served his peers in academic, athletic and social settings." Mark is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Young Life, and attends the Regional Governor's School. His FDHS was approximately 4.8. |
