| The Lifetime Center at AMC played
host one again to Competing
For A Cure,
a fundraising event benefiting the local chapter of the American Cancer
Society (ACS), on October 5-8. This multi sport event
features a
Tennis Tournament, Racquetball Tournament, 5K Race, and a
Participant/Sponsor Reception with Silent Auction. All
proceeds
from the sporting events and silent auction are donated to the ACS. Last year’s sponsors, Augusta Medical Center, The Lifetime Center at AMC, the Staunton Waynesboro Augusta Tennis Association, Jim Snead Ford, and Davis Professional Tennis joined forces again this year, and along with 44 event partners that made donations to the silent auction, set a goal of exceeding last years $5,323 donation . Besting last years donation by $2,092, a total of $7,415 was raised for the ACS in this years event. It is estimated that cancer will take the lives of over 14,120 Virginians in 2006. Most of us will at some point in our lifetime be affected by this disease either directly or indirectly, which is why events like this one ar so important. The ACS was the biggest winner of this event, but there were also many other winners throughout the weekend. 2006 Tennis Tournament Winners: Women’s Open Doubles Champions – Michele Jones & Lisa Whitescarver Women’s Intermediate Doubles Champions – Pat Rodenhaver & Gloria Armentrout Mixed Open Doubles Champions – Lori Hillman & Wray Sherman Mixed Intermediate Doubles Champions – Rhonda Shinaberry & Jeff Collins Men’s Open Doubles Champions – John Raker & Chad Reed Men’s Intermediate Doubles Champions – Jeff Collins & Rick Moran |
