2005 was the 59th consecutive year for this tournament. It was held on July 31 - August 6 at the Mary Baldwin and Robert E. Lee High School tennis courts and directed by Jim Kivlighan (adult division) and Chad Reed (junior division). In the Men's Open, Jim Hill set a record by winning the
men's
singles and the Buddy Dey Trophy for four consecutive years.
Richard Cote had previously won the open three consecutive times from
1982-84. Jim defeated Terry Pullin 6-0, 6-2 in the
finals.
He and Chad Reed also made it four consecutive doubles championships by
defeating Tom Erskine and Freddie Roberts 6-0, 6-0.
The
women's draw featured some new faces and some great tennis.
Michelle Jones was the big winner, taking the Women's singles and the
Women's Doubles crowns. Plus, she was runner-up in the Mixed
Doubles. This
earned her the Frank Pancake Trophy for accumulating the most points in
the tournament. The women's finals was perhaps the best match
of
the tournament. Michelle bounced back from a first set loss
