Augusta Health/Leader Tournament

On July 30 - Augusta 7, 2010, SWAT will host the 64rd consecutive Augusta Health/ Newsleader Tennis Tournament. This historic tournament has been played every year since the end of World War ll. There is evidence that it was played several years before the war and possibly as early as 1929 making it one of the oldest tennis tournaments in Virginia. The tournament was played on the MBC and Staunton City courts and included 24 adult and youth divisions with consolation rounds. Participants in SWAT's NJTL program were allowed to play in one division at no charge. The Buddy Dey Trophy was given to winner of Men's Open Divison and the Mabel Kivlighan Trophy went to the Women's Open Singles winner. The player accumulating the most points in the adult divisions received the Frank Pancake Memorial Trophy and the Jack Holt Award is presented to a junior player displaying the best sportsmanship.  Jim Kivlighan directed the tournament.
